SG. To me, an SG Classic (or a vintage Special or Jr.) with the P 90s is the undisputed King of Tone, and a bargain to boot. I love all the mystique of the Les Paul as well as the sound, but I find the design and the weight the balance more than the heft to be cumbersome. I also hate the 2352 or whatever different models Gibson sells.

GIBSON SG Custom, ’67 Reissue, only made in 1992. The classic double cutaway solidbody in a cherry red Mahogany finish with a bound neck with block inlays in the ebony fingerboard.
I believe the SG '61 Reissue's strength lies in its simplicity, a slim Mahogany body and neck plus a Rosewood fretboard powered by Gibson's '57 Classic pickups create a clear and balanced tone with solid sustain.
There is no differences between the "standard" SG's of 2009 thru 2011, as long as the guitar was pre raid and has the rosewood fretboard. Otherwise, the 2012 model (and maybe the 2011) will likely have baked maple boards.

I'm getting a custom spec'd Jaydee SG and for that, I've asked (among other things) for a 3 piece (Mahogany Strip of Maple Mahogany) neck, which should help for overall strength, topped of with an Ebony fingerboard, because I really like the tonal qualities that it adds.
