The Paid Family and Medical Leave Act (PFML) lets workers take up to 26 weeks of job protected paid time off work to care for their health, the health of a family member, or to bond with a new child.

PFML protects a worker’s job as soon as the worker notifies the employer that they need time off work for a qualifying reason. A qualifying reason means something that makes a worker eligible for family or medical leave.

The Massachusetts PFML program provides eligible workers job protected paid time off. When you return from leave, your employer must restore you to the same job you had before taking leave, or to a job that has the same pay status, employment benefits, length of service credit, and seniority.
