Mastercard recommends that Issuer’s back end server calls these functions regularly, typically on a bi weekly basis. Issuer’s server should cache the information returned by MDES and relay it to Issuer’s user Interface (app and website) so as to build the list of Token Requestors for the user.
The following table documents errors related to network token provisioning requests using Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES). The issuer did not respond to the network message in the expected time. When this happens, Mastercard sends an asynchronous message to the issuer.
If MDES returns a declined decision in the previous step, you will not be able to tokenize the Account PAN and will need to proceed with the full Account PAN and re try the tokenization process at a later stage, depending on the error type received.
All suspenders need to perform an unsuspend action to move a token from SUSPENDED to ACTIVE. The token status will only change when the last suspender has unsuspended the token. For CoF tokens, the only two supported suspenders are issuer and token requestor.
If merchant cannot handle soft decline and retry with an authentication request, then each transaction should be authenticated (especially those with low value payment acquirer exemption which must be challenged if counters are exceeded as per PSD2).
In case of a VACAT messages which is a low value authorization (0.02) includes the Activation Code (AC), if the transaction is authorized and approved by the issuer then the code is stored and sent via SMS to the user. This transaction flow doesn't has any impact to the issuer's legacy systems.
As an Issuer, we offer an Issuer wallet to our cardholders. Should we implement MDES Token Connect? Yes. Depending on how your wallet is configured, MDES Token Connect may ease the technical work for token provisioning, as well as enhance the experience for the cardholder.
Using MDES Token Connect API, the issuer contacts MDES to request the push of the selected account to the target token requestor. The issuer may append account holder data (for instance, billing address) to the request, if supported by the token requestor.
